I’m always on the look-out for cheap art supplies. It’s like a game — what can I find in the recycle bin? I started to love these strange little bits of barely seen pattern. I filched them at every opportunity, and soon discovered there was a lot of variation. It seemed wrong to not keep track of things.
I’ve noticed a ton of black and white cross-hatching, but also some lovely blue prints and an occasional green. As my collection grew, I wanted to see, at a glance, what I had.
The pattern book came into being after I found a long, rectangular booklet at a garage sale. I’m guessing it was originally meant for musical notation – the pages are blank craft paper, so it’s hard to say. (Also, I don’t know if double oboes are considered woodwinds of rage or not. I played clarinet in high school band, and never saw an uprising from the lesser instruments. YMMV.) It’s cute, regardless, and now the repository of my collection.
There’s another five pages I can fill, should I find appealing envelope liners. However, the heyday of such things may be ending as mailed bills winds down. Also, more of these are branded, or ugh, have bible verses on them. It’s like we can’t escape advertising opportunities at all.
The collection is slowing down, so I may stick other things in there. We shall see. Anyway, shout out to others who scrounge for envelope liners. Besides collecting, I’d love to know what you do with them.
