Project 1
It’s no secret, I love finding treasures at garage sales and then transforming those treasures into something else. It’s just takes moxie and a lot of spray paint. Let’s go!
Bad me, I didn’t take a before picture of this jewelry box (50 cents at a garage sale). Let me set the table: bog-standard brown, brown, brown, yuck brown. Also, the top was busted. I applied a little wood glue and a clamp to fix it and then set about painting the holy hell out of that brown.
Note to self: the first attempt at hand-brushing craft paint over the brown did not go well. Also, I messed up the clear sealant with white spray paint. I guess that turned out to be a good thing because I painted over everything with a coat of white and went to the store for the hot pink spray paint. The stencils and cookie cutters used as stencils were from garage sales past, so the only thing new touching this item is the paint.
Before you ask, this is for my husband’s 4-going-on-5 granddaughter. I hope she likes it.
Project 2
So first off, yes this watch box stayed brown. But this is a redder, more interesting brown versus the bog brown of the jewelry box. Trust me.
I got this for $2 at a garage sale, and immediately thought about acid etching the top with the stencils and acid etching solution I had at home. It’s good to have a project in mind when you pick things up else items tend to pile up in the closet to jump scare you at a later date. Again, trust me on this.
I’ve had the stencils and bottle of Armor Etch! forever, so I’m not going to count that as new. Basically, I didn’t have to buy anything to make this transformation. And by me, I mean asking my husband to pretty please paint the dangerous acid stuff on while I took pictures. He’s a gem.
I’m keeping the watch box to throw my earrings and other bits into. It took about five minutes from start to finish, which is a great dopamine hit.
