I walked up the Michigan Avenue bridge, bouncing and happy because I’d just given a dollar to someone who obviously needed it. I was filled with good karma–it was shining through my eyes, and maybe I was a little bouncy from listening to Fatboy Slim on my MP3 player, too. Anyway, in the middle of the bridge I happened to look up and lock eyes with this guy who was tall and cute in a Dolph Lungren sort of way. The look was intense but neither of us slowed down — he went south and I went north. After we passed each other, I waited a heartbeat and turned around — and he did the same. Amazing. We both kept walking, south, north. I was almost out of bridge when I turned around a third time — just as he turned around to find me. The smile I gave him could’ve lit up Michigan Avenue for a week. I waved, he waved back, and then we both disappeared into the evening crowd.
Perfect. I love this city.
