I never realize how big a geek I am until I talk to a group of people who aren’t. Tonight I told a group of library students about RSS, aggregators, taxonomy and information architecture and I felt like I was speaking a different language. I even refuted the statement that blogs were cutting edge…I forgot that for most people they are. Geek, geek, geek.
There aren’t people who log the kind of time I do. Not everyone works with technology…oh, it’s still not sinkin in…you must work with technology if you’re a librarian. Right? You must!
Hey, if you’re surfing here from that class, say hi in the comments and confirm my geekitude. Thanks!
Well I understood everything you were talking about. But then I am going from working in the web for the past five years to library school. So I see all my library learning from an information design/web design point of view. I actually really appreciate all that was said because it just helped to verify that yes, I am not insane for taking this turn in my life. That the connections with what I have been doing and what I have decided to study all are apparent and do make sense. But then, I take advanced cataloging classes so what do I know.
Thanks for everything. And always relish your geekiness. Lord knows it’s what helps _me_ get up in the morning.

Hey Chris, thanks for stopping by! I strongly considered getting an MLS, too, but I’m more interested in how to architect businesses than I am information. Keep cataloging, because I’m convinced that librarians will take over the web (via search engines and guile).
