I was cruising movie reviews this weekend with the thought that I’d feel well enough to actually go see one (almost), and came to the realization that there had to be an easier way to get movie ratings. Ebert’s site, Metromix’s site, blah, blah, blah. I don’t want to wade through each site’s schtick to find out the movie I’m considering sucks. So. Would someone with mad XML skills write the following:
An aggregator that will:
- compile the star rating for movies from several sources into one overall rating
- optional weighting (say, if I want Ebert’s stars to have more weight than Roeper’s)
- allow us to subscribe to various genres of movies (aggregates for action, romance, etc.)
- deliver the results to an RSS feed
- maybe include excerpts from reviews (positive and negative)
- maintain a list of sources, also an RSS feed
If this exists somewhere, I’m sorry I haven’t found it. If it doesn’t exist somewhere and you write it, let me know! Thanks!!!
Some of what you describe is available at metacritic.com. It’s where I go when I want an aggregate review. It doesn’t have all the nice RSS and personalization features you’re looking for (though I haven’t spent enough time there to know that for sure), but it lumps everyone into one score, and it gives little quotes from all the reviews it’s gloms together.
