I’m having an argument right now with my company’s library staff about the merits of using Factiva versus RSS feeds. I contend that we shouldn’t be relying on Factiva for news feeds when Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and over a 150 other domestic newspapers have their content available in feeds.
I know Factiva provides a 90 day archive to its subscribers, but couldn’t we teach our users to clip articles instead of relying on that archive?
I also have confidence that RSS tools will emerge that not only screen out advertisements, but also allow for intelligent filtering based on keyword meta data.
Anyone out there having a similar discussion with their library/public information/news gatekeepers? Pros? Cons? If I can stop paying Factiva all this money, I would really like to chuck them. Thoughts? Let me know…
