My last Crones of Anarchy post did well on Bluesky (are you following me?), so I did it again but with more socially relevant items: rebel shoes and fried eggs. IYKYK, ya know? Anyway, I also roped myself into doing some culture-shifting work with regards to how heroism is presented in this country. I said, in public, the following:
While we’re doing this, remember that the whole concept of “hero” has been shaped by movies, & heroism is not about wearing capes, shooting things, & saving the day. No one will save you in the nick of time. It is about quiet, persistent acts of justice without expectation of “glory.” Proceed.
I stand by that. And then I followed it up with:
Also, who wants to co-write a movie franchise featuring park rangers and librarians? Because the real heroes in this world are out there getting important things done: recycling, saving animals and watersheds, shelving…
I stand by that, too.
As the late, great Tina Turner once sang, “We don’t need another hero. We don’t need to know the way home.” And then something about a Thunderdome, which is less relevant but a much needed coda. I digress.
I now need to find a way to push the idea forward. Another crone has offered to project manage, which I’m okay with, but I need to know if it’s a workable idea. I shall noodle on it some this week and follow up with more later.
In the meantime, I’m stirring the pot, making good trouble, and doing what I can in my small corner to resist the tide of yuck rising in this country. Hoping you do the same.
